During excavation work to repair the broken pipe that returns
collected water from the waterwheel back to the mill pond, some
stone blocks were discovered. They were located in the mill yard
in front of the left side of the mill cottage and at a depth of
approximately one metre.
The blocks are sandstone and have groves chiseled and drilled
into the top surface, the purpose of which is unknown. Could they
have been foundation blocks of an early mill with wooden walls
located in the groves?
The blocks are now located in the Cart Shed to view and wonder
at their original function.
